About Me

“This is our time on the history line of God. This is it. What will we do with the one deep exhale of God on this earth? For we are but a vapor and we have to make it count. We’re on. Direct us, Lord, and get us on our feet.”

My Passion for Writing

I have loved stories for as long as I can remember.

Growing up as the oldest of five kids, I was often entertaining my younger siblings with stories and imaginary adventures. The games we played were always filled with creativity, and often involved putting on dress-up clothes and traveling to “distant lands” in our backyard.

I loved drawing, and spent countless childhood hours drawing pictures with colored pencils at my little old-fashioned school desk. Even then, I was writing stories: in every one of my drawings as a kid, the people were doing something, and most of my drawings were a part of a series of sorts, connecting to other drawings with the same characters.

What likely started off my love of stories was my Dad. He is an amazing storyteller. I fondly remember nights when my siblings and I would get cozy around the couch or an outdoor fire pit to hear Dad tell us a story. I know these moments inspired me, and helped shape my own imagination and creativity.

Now, I love stories as much as ever, although I am not currently focused on writing fiction. I am eager to share the most incredible, adventurous, romantic, captivating story of all time… The story God began telling in the Bible, and the story He is continuing through our lives.

My Passion for Jesus

Although I have known Jesus as my Savior from a very young age, I didn’t really know Him until I was in my teens. I grew up in a Christian home, with the Bible as a core part of my education (I was homeschooled through High school), and yet God was only a distant character in a story I didn’t really feel a part of.

Some people will tell about a single defining moment when they experienced God change their hearts, but for me, it was a slower, subtle process. It took many small moments of God revealing Himself to me for me to pursue Him in deeper relationship.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

(1 John 1:5-7)

I want to be this bold for Jesus, to speak with this level of confidence! Not whisper about Him, or mention Him; not bring Him up occasionally in passing… But to proclaim what He has done in my life!

To me, this means writing about the things I learn about God and what He’s teaching me; It means having deep conversations; It means being vulnerable about my own heart; It means Living as though I belong to a completely different world, and I need to invite others to be a citizen of that world (Philippians 3:20); it means listening to people’s stories; it means praying with others; it means worshiping my King loudly and passionately in church (even if I’m not an amazing singer).

For me, this is what proclaiming Jesus looks like. (I’d love to read in the comments what this looks like to you!)

The deeper my relationship with Jesus grows, the deeper I feel a desire to share the love He has poured into me with others. The world is a dark, depraved, desperate place because of sin. But as a follower of Jesus, I am made to be the complete opposite: light, like a candle flame illuminating a cavern. Jesus is the flame, I am the candle. I am not the source of hope, but the vessel for it. I know I can’t reach everyone- but I hope I can make a difference to the people and places God has placed intentionally in my life.

Each of us is a necessary character in the story God is telling. We must be brave and we must be bold- for we shine The Light. We need each other to do it.

“It takes two flints to make a fire.”
